Work on this goal should follow a year of more intensive focus on cultural development opportunities. Time permitting, emphasis on expanding Downtown's role as a learning center should proceed in Year Three.

The general intent is to make Downtown Meridian a leader in the area of life-long continuing education. A community college, specialty institutes, and satellites of Treasure Valley universities are ideal targets toward this end.

The primary tool to move this effort forward is the designation or creation of an organization to coordinate the effort. Because the activity will be substantial and ongoing, a specialized entity is needed to supplement MDC's staff. MDC should scan the community for an appropriate partner. If none can be found, a new organization should be established with MDC's assistance.
