Next Steps

It is often said that every journey begins with a single step. It is also said that if you don't know where you're going, any road will do. Fortunately, the City of Meridian and its community partners have a clear road map and direction for achieving a desirable future Downtown. The road map is presented in the Implementation Tab of this web report. First steps will be critical in establishing a healthy city center development program. Consequently, they are presented here in brief:

• Adopt and promote the vision
• Refine the City regulatory system to accommodate this plan
• Develop a plan to improve the downtown circulation system
• Complete the downtown master plan
• Strengthen the development team with interest and expertise in all areas
• Begin a program to identify and attract appropriate arts to the downtown
• Finalize the plan for siting and building the new City Hall downtown
• Develop a plan and establish a public market to be conducted downtown
• Establish and enhance a series of gateways for the city and downtown
• Finalize plan to develop transit downtown
